  • Well worth the read!

    I've admired Scott's work for some time and decided to download the book for a recent flight. Scott takes a really refreshing approach of not getting too techie on you. He wrote this as a photographer, not as a technical expert trying to convince you that you need more gear to make great images. I love how stream of consciousness the book is and how he is very clear in his opinions and HIS methodology. He doesn't claim to be the categorical expert, just a successful shooter sharing HIS way of working. Great read!
  • It's got the essentials

    At first I was a bit disappointed at the rambling style and lack of technical information......but then I realized this was more like a conversation Scott might be having with a beginning photographer over a couple of beers....then I got it. I've admired Scott's work for several years and this book is simply a frank discussion on what you REALLY need to be thinking about if you want to get started in glamour and fine art nudes. I wish I'd had this book when I got started several years ago...would've saved me a lot of time and headaches.     You couldn't ask for a better "Getting Started" text than this. Gets across the important stuff without getting lost in technical details. Explains the concepts in simple terms with specific examples from Scott Chruch's own portfolio to visually reinforce the messages. Very happy I picked this up.

    I began taking photos 40 years in high school for the yearbook, then worked my way through college as a reporter-photographer for a small daily newspaper. After taking thousands of photos , I thought I just didn't have a "good eye" Scott Church's photos have alway intrigued me (no it's not the boobs). This simple book in Scott's own words gave me a glimpse through his eyes and his keep it simple philosophy gave me a new perspective. An excellent primer on how to shoot better photos (err ....images, sorry Scott) from an exposure and composition standpoint. Now I understand what intrigues me about his daily blog. Reading this book allows me at least a small piece of what Scott was thinking when he shot each one of his images. Bravo, sir!!
  • A must read for anyone who has a DSLR

    After getting my new camera and having it a week I was still confused and fuzzy on how everything worked and how the settings worked together and separate of each other. After I read this book everything became magically clear and made sense to me. The way Scott explained everything in simple terms was amazing. I am now able to take a pic on manual mode and understand how to tweak settings to get the pic the way it needs to be. I still have a lot to learn but this book gave me a strong foundation and now it's up to me to keep shooting and practicing to get the pics just right. This is one book that I will always keep close to my camera as a reference.

    Great tutorial, easy to read and follow, I love this guy. Scott is so easy to talk to and this book follows along like a conversation, no effort needed. A great book for someone interested in starting out in photography. I recommend also booking an appointment and letting him work his genius on you. Be it kids, couples or just you, his photographic finesse is one you will become addicted to.
