Sherlock Holmes Investigates. The Pink Jewel Conundrum In this 7,400 word story, Holmes and Watson investigate the disappearance of a jewel from the library of the Mayor of Portsmouth. A 'locked room' mystery.
Philip van Wulven Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson uncover a well organised and substantial smuggling operation. The criminals style themselves as Free Traders, and deny Her Majesty's Government's right to levy import duties on goods. The pair follow the trail through sewers and a church to a moonlit landing of contraband in order to discover the secrets of the Free Traders Consortium. With the information they gather, the Revenue Department is able to interdict a considerable operation, and arrests are made.
Philip van Wulven Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson travel by horseless carriage from Winchester to the New Forest and beyond. The good Doctor is delighted to drive this novel conveyance, while others are not so sanguine. They investigate the theft of some Voodoo Dolls from Lady Violet Chatterley, and find an evil intent behind an apparently simple crime. The friends use logic and scientific knowledge to trace the connections between Lady Chatterley, Dr Livingstone,the Voodoo Dolls, an evil Lascar, a Gypsy Seer, an exotic bird, an African Witchdoctor, a Christian missionary, and Her Majesty the Queen. With determination, and some help, they race to avert a shocking tragedy and an evil curse. There is an explosive climax, and some tears are shed.
Philip van Wulven Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are called back to the scene of the Case of the Dog which Did Not Bark, to investigate reports of a litch, a risen corpse or zombie, in the area. In the course of their investigation they meet danger and are involved in mysterious events. They see death, true love(perhaps), and a great mystery revealed in an idiosyncratic way by the well meant actions of Dr Watson.
Philip van Wulven Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson explore secret tunnels and caverns, which lead them to the workshop of an inventor. Holmes displays some unexpected knowledge, and his surprising membership in an esoteric club enables him to collect incriminating evidence against a leader of a smuggling gang. The dastardly Lascar, Ravendra, appears, and a battle to the death allows Watson to show his mettle.
Philip van Wulven Peter Fitt uses a Soviet airplane in a development project, to place fish in Kariba Lake, to provide a livelihood to people displaced by the new dam, and the Russians use this opportunity to supply arms to both sides in the Rhodesia/Zimbabwe independence struggle. They intend to escalate the civil war so their cadres can climb into power. S**t rises to the top when stirred. Pete instinctively dislikes the power-hungry men who see others as ego-food or enemies. In his family, with a memory of San beliefs, these are looked on as human predators, men possessed by lion spirits. The eland opposes the selfish and destructive carnivores, the lions, and helps those who embrace the principle that the strong should defend others, not prey on them. Healing power is found in dance, in trance, but courage, and love, are for each to find.

In these stories the great detective and his friend save Her Majesty Queen Victoria from an attack on her person, and thwart the scheme of the evil Lascar, Ravendra, to lay a curse on the Royal Navy. They go on to assist a prominent citizen of Portsmouth, who is in an embarassing situation, provide help to a Justice of the Peace and the Revenue Department in the interdiction of smuggling in the county, and finally are able to end the career of the dastardly Lascar, while assisting a most inventive gentleman with his technological innovations.
Philip van Wulven While engaged by a certain farmer to investigate a conflagration and possible arson, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson follow a trail of clues back and forth through London, out into the countryside, and up the Chiltern Hills. Inspector Lestrade of the Metropolitan Constabulary is pleased with the results of their enquiries, and some commercial plans may be impeded.

During the Fifth Crusade the wars spread widely as alliances and strategies shifted, so that the main Christian forces landed in Egypt, as the Ayyubid Sultan relied on that rich country to supply his armies. Their first objective was the city of Damietta, and here the Frisians and Dutch played a large part in the siege and battles. Some found adventure and rich loot, but many died of disease or wounds. Danger did not stay across the sea in foreign lands, but was constant back home as well.
